No More Distractions.

Monk Focus is a browser extension built to help you stay focused on what truly matters—your tasks.

1) Why I Built This

I noticed people struggling with distractions. Even with only 2–3 work tabs open, I’d somehow end up scrolling Facebook or Instagram. That’s where Monk Focus comes in: it lets you browse only those sites you’ve added to your “Focus Sites” list. Everything else? Blocked. Simple and powerful.

2) First Time Setup

After installing:

1. Click the extension icon and pin Monk Focus to your toolbar.

2. Add your first focus site (like github.com) and click "Add". You can also add the current tab directly.

3. Enable Focus Mode using the toggle switch.

4. Try visiting a blocked site to see it in action.

3) Interface Overview

Status Display: Shows ON/OFF focus mode status.
Focus Toggle: Enables/disables focus mode instantly.
Timer: Allows timed focus sessions.
Focus Sites: Shows allowed websites list.
Current Tab: Offers quick actions.

4) Managing Focus Sites

You can add sites in three ways:

Manual Entry: Type domains like github.com.
Current Tab: Quickly add the current site.
Quick Add: Paste domain from clipboard and clean it automatically.

To remove: Click the red "Remove" button next to a listed site.

5) Using Focus Mode

Once enabled, only allowed sites load. All other sites display a blocking screen with a 🎯 emoji, a message, and options to go back or close the tab.

To disable Focus Mode, toggle it off from the popup.

6) Timer Functionality

Set a timer between 1–480 minutes. It will auto-enable Focus Mode and start a countdown. Once the timer ends, focus mode disables and a notification appears (if allowed).

You can clear or extend timers anytime.

7) Advanced Features

Current Tab Integration: One-click adding with smart detection.

Persistent Storage: All settings saved locally and persist across sessions.

Flexible Matching: Subdomains like api.github.com are also matched.

8) Best Practices

- Keep your focus list short and task-specific.
- Use Pomodoro (25 minutes focus, 5–15 minute break).
- Review and adjust your focus list daily.
- Categories: development, writing, research, and communication sites.

9) Troubleshooting

If sites aren’t blocked: Check toggle, cache, or focus list.

If timer isn’t working: Ensure valid input and check notifications.

If popup fails: Verify extension is enabled in chrome://extensions/.

If blocking screen doesn't show: Refresh tab, check domain, try new tab.

10) Keyboard Shortcuts

No built-in shortcuts yet, but try:

- Ctrl+Shift+E for extensions page
- Alt+D to focus address bar
- Ctrl+W to close current tab

11) Privacy and Security

- No data is sent to external servers.
- Only current tab URL is accessed.
- No browsing data is tracked.
- 100% open source and local.

12) Updates & Maintenance

- Manually update when needed.
- Settings remain intact during updates.
- Backup focus sites list for safety.

Stay focused. Stay productive. Monk Focus is here to help.
